Corewise / Tuffy Automatic Core Saw

Leveraging the latest technology and craftsmanship that made the Almonte Core Saw possible, inventor AllButt listened to operator feedback and created the upgraded Corewise Automatic Core Saw.

Now with Direct Drive – Safer, Faster, More Reliable

The motor is now directly connected to the blade through a shaft. This direct mechanical connection eliminates many of the torque losses associated with the previous v-belt drive.

More Torque

Cutting speed is faster by as much as 30%. The direct drive system has fewer components prone to energy losses, like belts and pulleys, that introduce friction and reduce overall efficiency.

Safer to Operate

Little to no silica mist, thanks to the new mist guard. You can breathe better knowing there’s reduced back spray coming from the blade. No belts slipping against pulleys also means quieter core cutting.

Reduced Maintenance

There are no belts to replace, so this improved Corewise is cheaper to run. Fewer moving parts means less maintenance, leading to lower operational costs, less downtime, and more working hours.

Suitable for All Drill Core Sizes

The Corewise Automatic Core Saw’s 110mm core feed channel ensures the core guide will not ride up while operating, versus the traditional machines that have a narrower 90mm gully. Its gully size also makes it the only core saw in the world that can take PQ core guides, along with BQ, HQ and NQ.

Adaptive Feed Control

The integrated LCD display monitors motor amperage in real time. When it detects resistance from harder siliceous zones, it alerts the operator to slow the feed — preventing blade damage and costly downtime. In softer material, it prompts faster feeding to maximize throughput. The result is optimized blade life across varying ground conditions, without relying on operator guesswork.

Dynamic Braking

Press stop or lift the safety guard — the blade halts immediately. Unlike conventional saws where the blade coasts to a stop after power is cut, the Tuffy's dynamic braking system brings the blade to a full stop in under a second. This is a key safety requirement for mine sites operating under Zero Harm policies, where rotating blade injuries are a leading cause of hand and wrist incidents in core shacks.

Designed for Remote Camps

The Tuffy runs on a standard 10kW single-phase generator — the kind already present in most exploration camps. No need for a dedicated 20kVA three-phase power source. For fly-in, winter road, or sealift-supplied operations where every kilogram of freight counts, this is a significant logistical and cost advantage. Smaller generator footprint means less fuel flown in and lower operating costs across a full drilling season.

Continuous Chain Feed

The Tuffy uses a continuous chain feed system, allowing the operator to load the next core boat the moment the previous one clears the blade. There is no waiting for a pusher lug to cycle back to start position. In a high-production camp running multiple drill rigs, this difference in throughput compounds quickly — more core cut per shift means logging keeps pace with drilling.

Made in Canada

The Tuffy is engineered and manufactured in Canada. That means replacement parts ship overnight from Winnipeg to Red Lake, Thompson, or Timmins — not from the other side of the Pacific. It also means the saw is built to perform through Canadian winter conditions: freeze-thaw cycling, cold-start environments, and the dust and grit of Shield rock. When something needs service, our team is in the same time zone.
